2012 PPSC Print Competition Results, by SC Portrait and Wedding Photographer

Well, this time last Saturday I was a nervous wreck as our annual PPSC (Professional Photographers of South Carolina) Print Competition was about to start.  It’s a love-hate relationship for me with print competition.  I love creating the images and albums for competition, but I hate listening to the judges criticize them, especially if the scores aren’t where I feel they should be.  In print competition, a score of 80 or higher earns the photographer a merit. Merits are accumulated to earn state (PPSC) or national (PPA) photography degrees, which can mean little or a lot depending on how you look at it.  To me, they mean a lot!  I look at it like climbing a ladder.  Some are happy to stay where they’re at, and others want to continue climbing to new levels. Entering print competition pushes photographers to new heights, so I continue climbing that ladder.

I came home pretty happy from our state convention this week with a dozen awards from the print competition.

Here’s the rundown of my merit earning entries and the awards won by each…

“Run for the Hills”-  Best of  Show/ Highest Scoring Entry (92) / CPP (Certified Professional Photographer) Award / Fuji Masterpiece Award /   Best of Portraits / 1st Place, Pets & Animals

…………………………

“Let’s Roll”- Best Black and White / Distinguished Award, Men’s Portraits

………………………..

“Prelude”- Distinguished Award, Women’s Portraits

…………………………

“Christina and James” wedding album- Fuji Masterpiece Award  / First Place, Wedding Albums

…………………………

“Suzie & Michael”- Second Place, wedding albums

I finished second place overall, just behind my good friend and amazingly talented photographer, Tammy Bevins.  There’s no one else I’d be happy to get beat by than Tammy.  But just wait until next year… I’ve got my sights set on finishing first!
